Legend of Zelda: Link's Decision is my first quest, released in 2007. As far as I can tell, it's the first ZC quest with character classes of any kind, hence Link's Decision. It's pretty straightforward and generally linear, although the first half can be less linear. There are eight triforce dungeons, level 9, three optional dungeons, and three class dungeons. There are actually six class dungeons, but each class has their own set of three. Aside from the class dungeons, there are a couple other areas where the two classes diverge.
The overworld is a standard size, but there are eighteen dungeons when you include optional and class dungeons. The game was originally so difficult that I made an easy mode of the quest, which is just a second qst file in the zip file when you download the quest. In 2023, the bugs were finally fixed, and music was added to the game. Originally, it had only the stock Zelda 1 songs, but now it includes music for every area, and has a special area where you can listen to any song in the quest. The only other addition with the 2023 bugfix is this website and walkthrough.
I recommend playing in Zelda Classic version 2.53. As of Sept 2023, playing in v2.55 has only two minor bugs, one which lets you get as much money as you want in certain caves, and another that prevents bats from flying over water making them easier to kill in only two rooms. Since v2.55 is alpha, the bugs might be fixed by the time you play this, or other bugs might have been introduced.
Before the update to v1.0 in 2023, the quest was pretty broken. I hadn't done enough testing, and moved on to making The Nine Villages sooner than I should have. There were a few late-game fatal bugs that prevented you from getting to the end, and a few other major bugs. This version of the quest comes with around two hundred bugs fixed, although I have to admit more than a few of them were problems with the added music and music listening area. There was a lot, 15.5 years since an update. I don't think that's the kind of thing you want to advertise, though. Errr...
Check out my other Zelda Classic stuff:
Quest - Legend of Zelda: The Nine Villages (2008) - Combine Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 into one enormous game. 9 overworld screens, world map fast travel, 19 mandatory dungeons, 7 optional dungeons, 20+ hours, much easier.
(The Nine Villages on PureZC)
Quest - Link's Decision 2: Chronos the Tears of Fate (2010/2022) - Sequel to this quest with four classes and time travel. 3 overworld screens, 19 mandatory dungeons, 10 optional dungeons, town side quest, 15+ hours.
(Link's Decision 2 on PureZC)
Music Video - They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (not Constantinople) - Link's Decision 2 (2023) - An AMV-style music video about the sequel zelda classic quest. The song's lyrics just match the story of the town side quest so well. This is not a trailer. (2m37s)
